Devendra Nath Tiwari, a Professor of philosophy& Religion, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi(b.02.09.1955), did his graduation (1975), post-graduation (1977) and Ph.D. (1979) from the Banaras Hindu University and started his career as a lecturer (1981) from there. He served L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga, Bihar, as Reader (1988-96) and as Professor of Philosophy (1996-2007). He was a general fellow (1993-1996) of Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi. He chaired the Department of Philosophy & Religion, Banaras Hindu University from 2010-2013. He is widely known as an outstanding scholar having deep study of the original texts of Indian Philosophical Systems in general and Philosophy of Language, Indian and Western, in particular.
Language, Being and Cognition: A Contemporary Perspective (2014) is authored by him that culminates in cognitive holism which draws a boundary of cognition and philosophical reflections, which according to its author's perception, are not only based on but also confined to the intelligible beings that are flashes of understanding. His book 'The Central Problems of Bhartṛhari's Philosophy' published in 2008 by Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi, is a milestone in the field of understanding the world of communication and is widely read by National and International scholars of philosophy and language. The Upaniṣadic View of life (1986) authored by him is highly appreciated by scholars of Philosophy. He has more than 126 papers published in International and National Journals of Philosophy of International repute to his credit. He has delivered more than 200 Lectures in different national and International Seminars/conference/work-shops/refresher and oriental courses organized by Universities of India. He is a Research fellow and member of the several academic bodies of the National and foreign projects. He is an Adjunct professor at International Center of Studies in Spirituality, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Kashmir, India. He is member of the editorial board of several Indian Journals of Philosophy and Journal of East-West Thought: An International Journal of association of East –West Philosophies, California, U.S.A. and one of the Advisors of 'Cultura: An International Journal of Philosophy of Axiology and Culture'. He is offered Visiting Professor on ICCR Chair(2014) at Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka, Mauritius, for one year.
